Roman Tilly is researcher and data scientist at the German Centre for Rail Traffic Research (www.dzsf.bund.de) at the German Federal Railway Authority. He is also Research Affiliate at the research group of Information Systems and Information Management at the Cologne Institute for Information Systems (CIIS). Previously, he was Assistant Professor ("Akademischer Rat auf Zeit") at CIIS and research assistant at the Department of Information Systems and Information Management at University of Cologne. 

Roman received his doctorate degree in Information Systems from University of Cologne and holds a Diploma degree (equivalent to Master of Science) in Information System.

In his research and teaching, Roman has been focusing on digital transformation and innovation, information quality in social information systems, and recommender systems. His work has been published in academic journals like Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE), Electronic Markets (EM), the Journal of Radio & Audio Media, and at academic conferences like the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the European Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI), and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). Roman has also served as reviewer for BISE, EM, ICIS, ECIS, AMCIS and other journals and conferences.

Roman has conducted and lead research projects with industry partners in business intelligence and data analytics that focused, for example, on predictive modelling of customer behavior. He has also worked for different companies as an independent consultant.
